We are in the final countdown towards camp!

The biggest mystery to me is how I am going to fit everything into the trunk of my car!  Maybe I will have to borrow the box van from work, or Mark's truck?

We also wanted to let you know that we will have some electric tea kettles available in case you want to bring along any beverages (tea, coffee, hot cocoa) for when you are at camp. We will have hot cups available.  Water is also provided.   We will have a cooler w/bottled water and ice.

If you are planning on packing a lunch or dinner - be advised that we do not have a kitchen or refrigerator in our scrap room.  So you would have to pack a cooler and there is  no way to heat up anything other than water.  Another post will be made shortly to let you know some of the restaurants in the general area.  Please note there is a post regarding some vegetarian type options here.http://scrampcamp.blogspot.com/2012/08/food-options-at-camp.html

OWH

I am currently participationg in  the Big Idea Festival over at Big Picture Classes.  Day 1 the challenge was to send out happy mail.  I found this note in the message board and thought I would share it with you all since our big "project" at camp - complete with a prize - is making cards for Operation Write Home.

Stacy and everyone else. I am currently in Afghanistan, and there is a lovely program called Operation Write Home . They send donated Cards to Soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Kuiwat. If you feel like donating to them and passing on your happy mail to a Solider I know myself and others appreciate it. I get a box for my hallway and they are gone in about 12 hours.

I love hearing from someone who actually receives the cards!

One Month to Go!

Are you all getting excited yet?  Have you planned what you are going to work on?  Have you made your reservations... be they at a hotel, motel or perhaps a relatives house?  Have you made some cards for OWH, or at least thought about what you will make for them at camp?

Sadly, Elizabeth had to drop out of camp due to physical therapy for her shoulder. We wish her a speedy recovery and will certainly miss her at camp this year.

As some of you may know... there will be some "activities" at camp so you will not have the entire camp time to work on your own projects.  Just know that there will be some additional things to do.

As always, if you have any questions don't hesitate to e-mail me, call me, send me a card (LOL).

See you soon!

Food Options at Camp

I contacted a friend who is vegetarian and lives near Scrapbook Island. Here are some suggestions from her regarding vegetarian fare at camp.

Whole Foods. The big one is at Blossom Hill and Almaden.

The best vegetarian restaurant around is The Vegetarian House downtown- it's a full menu, sit down with a real restaurant feel. 520 East Santa Clara Street  San Jose, CA 95112
(408) 292-3798

There is also the Happy Bamboo which is near the hwy 85/camden ramp:
1711 Branham Ln # A9  San Jose, CA 95118
(408) 694-0740

There is fast food vegan at Loving Hut in Oakridge mall and other places in town- it is a chain.

There is the new Sunflower store on Branham near Amaden where the old OSH used to be.

I'll update with more food options as we get closer, but just want to have a place to list some ideas for places near the Island.

Let me know if you have a favorite in the area :-)

Camp Updates

Well, while JJ is off camping (the real kind) I thought you might want an update on how things are coming along for our own camp!  It's just a little over six weeks until we all meet up for camp, getting excited?

Have you made some cards for the special Operation Write Home project?  Bring them along, or some good ideas to make some at camp!  Raffle tickets for the "grand prize" are given out for cards brought to camp ( 2 cards = 1 ticket) and those made at camp (1 card = 1 ticket).  Cardstock and a limited selection of stamps will be available at camp.  I'd really like people to at least make some Any Hero cards!

I know one camper who has made her plane reservations, and I think most everyone who is staying at a hotel has made theirs also.

Many of the things planned for camp are complete or on their way to completion.  JJ has all the ________ and is working on some ____________. Tracy is working on ______& ______.  Nancy finished up the ________ and is working on _______.

If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail  Nancy   nancine at sbcglobal dot net.

There are no swap items that YOU the camper need worry about making.

Gentle Reminders

The weekend is upon us, and since I'm headed down the freeway for a weekend crop with Connie I thought I'd send out a gentle reminder and update regarding camp.

If you owe the balance you should have received an email from me with the amount - the balance is due August 1.
Some have already sent the balance in and you know who you are!

JJ, Tracy and I had a meeting/work day up at Janice's - yeah, yeah we know you missed us Lucy!
but suffice to say that things are well underway for a fabulous weekend!  We think you will be pleased.

I'm pretty sure that we will have Melissa* coming out on Saturday to give massages at your seat for $1 a minute.  This will help you relax those tired muscles in your shoulders and neck from the hard work you are doing on your scrapbooks, cards, etc.  So you might want to set aside a bit of cash for that!

I'm working on getting a list of restaurants/food places together so that we will have a list.  I know of a few people who have specific food needs so I'm looking into what is available nearby.  I do know that there is a Whole Foods just down the street, so that should have a variety of things available as their "to go" counters are vast.  If you have a specific need or desire please email me and I'll see what I can find!

*Melissa is my weight training instructor who does massage too!

Camp Update

Not much to report without giving away secrets!  We had another productive meeting this weekend, so things are progressing nicely.

Those who placed deposits should note that final payments are due on August 1st.
I will send you a reminder e-mail in the next few days.

swaps?

I've been asked if we are having a swap at camp - like ATCs.  The answer is no, this is a no pressure camp!  Don't worry about getting something made to bring, just worry about what you're going to pack to work on.

May Update

We had four people on the waiting list, and we are happy to announce that we will be able to accommodate all of them.

The "Camp Counselors" (Tracy, Janice and Nancy) had a meeting today - it was productive!  We got many things decided, some things worked on, purchases planned... oh my!

IMHO it's shaping up to be a grand weekend!

Camp Registration FULL

We will be establishing a waiting list for those interested at this time, and after April 1st non-members may sign up on the waiting list.

For those Desperate Scrampers that want to ensure a spot at Scramp Camp if you can find someone to share a table with you we can do that.  The tables are your basic 6' tables that at crops/classes you get half of.  That being said, we don't really have room for 48 scrampers, but can make a few adjustments.

The price remains the same, and you would be first in line (as you sign up we'll make a list) to get a regular space if someone drops out.

Please e-mail Nancy to get on the waiting list   nancine at sbcglobal.net

What's New

This is the last month for WC members to sign-up for Camp until we open it up to non-members.  So if you have been on the fence, or totally forgot about signing up check out the Financial Information page on where to send your deposits.  Sign-ups for non-members is open April 1st.

In other news, some final plans have been made on some of the activities for the camp weekend.  Can't give out any details... but you will have FUN!

Reminder:  We will be having a special prize drawing for cards donated to Operation Write Home.  We have decided that the main goal is collecting cards for the troops, so even those who cannot attend Scramp Camp this year will be able to participate.

For every two cards donated you will receive one raffle ticket.
For every card made at Scramp Camp you will receive one raffle ticket.

2 pre-made cards = 1 ticket
1 made-at-event card = 1 ticket

There will be some stamps and cardstock available at camp to make Any Hero cards.
